Disorder Name: Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)

What is it?: Obstructive Sleep Apnea is a serious sleep disorder where breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep. These pauses, called apneas, occur when the throat muscles relax and block the airway.

Potential Solutions: Treatments include lifestyle changes like weight loss, positional therapy, and avoiding alcohol. The most common and effective treatment is Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy. Mandibular advancement devices (a type of mouth guard) are also an option for mild to moderate cases.

When to see a specialist? If you or your partner notice loud snoring, gasping, or pauses in breathing during sleep, it is crucial to see a doctor.
