Disorder Name: Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS)
What is it? Restless Legs Syndrome, also known as Willis-Ekbom disease, is a neurological disorder characterised by an uncontrollable urge to move the legs, usually because of an uncomfortable sensation. It typically happens in the evening or nighttime hours when you're sitting or lying down.

Common Symptoms: An overwhelming urge to move the legs, often accompanied by sensations like creeping, crawling, pulling, or itching. Symptoms begin or worsen during periods of rest, such as sitting or lying down. Symptoms are temporarily relieved by movement, such as walking or stretching. Symptoms are worse in the evening or at night. Leg movements may be jerky and involuntary during sleep (periodic limb movements of sleep).
Potential Solutions: Lifestyle changes can have a significant impact. This includes regular, moderate exercise, establishing a consistent sleep schedule, and massaging the legs or taking a warm bath before bed. Checking for and correcting iron deficiency is a crucial first step. In more severe cases, medication may be prescribed by a doctor.
When to see a specialist? If the symptoms are frequent, cause significant distress, disrupt your sleep, and affect your quality of life, it's time to consult a doctor to get an accurate diagnosis and discuss treatment options.
